Raphael Suissa

Raphael is a highly experienced indirect tax practitioner, with over 20 years’ indirect tax experience in a Big 4 environment.

Qualifying first as a chartered certified accountant and then as a chartered tax adviser, he initially worked as an auditor within a Top 10 firm, before embarking on a career in VAT.

Throughout his career, he has worked in VAT across many sectors, including real estate, education, financial services, charities / not-for-profit organisations and the public sector. For the last 7 years, Raphy has worked extensively in the public and not for profit sectors. He has particular expertise in the establishment of arms length bodies created by local authorities and the VAT issues they face.

Alison Carey

Alison is a chartered tax adviser and a chartered accountant. With nearly 25 years of experience in VAT, advising clients from major high street names to small local businesses, Alison is particularly focused on the retail and travel sectors, combining technical and sector expertise.

Alison also advises not for profit organisations drawing on her experience in various voluntary and trustee roles. Her wider experience includes advising on property, education, financial services and betting and gaming.

Her combination of indirect, commercial and accounting skills makes her ideally placed to spot opportunities for clients to reduce their indirect tax cost.

 

Jonathan Main

A chartered tax advisor, accredited mediator and non-executive director, Jonathan has a clear vision on the most complex tax and commercial issues and has experience in managing relationships with clients across a wide variety of sectors, from education, health and social care, the public sector, travel, betting and gaming, to real estate, utilities and food production.

He has enjoyed a career that amongst other things has seen him undertake national leadership of the PwC ADR practice within indirect tax – a role in which he was responsible for the successful negotiation and settlement of several complex disputes with HMRC.

From 2008, Jonathan lead the market for local government in the North West of England, acting for all local councils in the region on a wide variety of matters. Highlights included the establishment of arms length trading entities, urban regeneration schemes, disputes with HMRC and the recovery of substantial amounts of incorrectly paid VAT.

Jonathan has been an indirect tax adviser since 1989 and a partner with Mtaxco, PwC and Arthur Andersen since 1999.
